Knoxville — Knoxville Coaches vs. Cancer Organizer Jim Uitermarkt reports that the total fund raising effort from Saturday's event stands at $55,000.
Uitermarkt wrote in an email Sunday night that there are still some things coming in, but $55,000 is a safe number to report. That figure itself is $5,000 over the record-breaking total from the 2013 event.
"Angie and I have said the past three years that we didn't think it was possible to break the record from the previous year and each time Knoxville has came through bigger and better than before," Uitermarkt wrote. "We are truly thinking that there is nothing this town can't do when it finds a cause it believes in. We are so humbled by the support of not just money, but the countless offers to volunteer and help in anyway. We are so thankful for all the volunteer help, donors, our cancer survivor honorees, those that bowled, swam, played in the alumni games, the list goes on and on. We hope everyone that was involved in anyway found this to be a rewarding and fulfilling experience, and we hope that all of those people out there that are dealing with the terrible disease cancer know that they are not alone. While they are dealing with this on a very personal level we hope this event shows them they are not alone and we are all united in the fight against cancer."
