Raceway Rebate passes subcommittee

Des Moines — The proposed $2 million sales tax rebate for Knoxville Raceway (HSB 678) has just been approved by a House Ways and Means Subcommittee.

The subcommittee approved the proposal 3-0. Rep. Guy VanderLinden chaired the subcommittee. He believes that the full Ways and Means Committee will take the measure up at some point this week, but he is unsure about the bill's future.

"I think it's got a good chance, but I certainly don't guarantee its passage," VanderLinden said.

Rep. Greg Heartsill sponsored the original bill. He was present at today's subcommittee hearing.
