Knoxville — Volunteers braved a cold and blustery Saturday morning to lay wreaths in honor of Americans veterans at Graceland Cemetery.

The Oskaloosa/Mary Marion Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution organized this Wreaths Across America event. Wreaths Across America will honor veterans at over 400 locations around the country this year.

Because of the weather, some of the formalities were waived. Words local Veteran Service Organizations were going to share read, "We are here today to honor our deceased veterans. On this day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free. The veterans of our military services have put their lives on the line to protect the freedom that we enjoy. They dedicated their lives to their country and today, we will recognize them for their commitment."

A recording of "Taps" was played to close out the event. The wreaths and flags are still standing at the veterans' plot at Graceland Cemetery.
