Knoxville — A ribbon cutting was held Friday afternoon to welcome 21st Century Rehab to Knoxville.

The company took over physical therapy services at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics earlier this year. Steve and Michelle Cassabaum started the company in 1995 in Nevada. KHC is the sixth hospital the company serves.

Steve Cassabaum was inspired to go into the Physical Therapy field after sustaining an injury in high school. The best results he had in his recovery were attributed to the therapy he received. This therapy allowed him to play football for two more years. He earned his doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2009 from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Michelle is the Chief Financial Officer of the company. She attended Iowa State University to earn her business degree and received her pharmacy school training at the University of Iowa. She holds a Master's in healthcare administration.

Dr. Susan Woodle is the primary contact for 21st Century Rehab at KHC.
