Video, Slideshow: Flag Raising at Graceland Cemetery

Knoxville — A group of volunteers spent this morning hoisting the poles and raising the flags for the Memorial Day Avenue of Flags at Graceland Cemetery.

The volunteers took poles from the back of truck. Flag raising volunteers followed another that was filled with the dozens of American flags ready to be sail in the wind over the weekend, in honor of those who have given their lives in service to our country.

The event had nice, sunny weather and a gentle breeze that made all of the flags - including those placed on the graves of local veterans - fly proudly.

Mike Kuhn with the Marion County Commission on Veterans Affairs shared a few words and prayer. This was followed by a military salute and the playing of "Taps."
