Good turnout for fireworks

Knoxville — Knoxville had its own Independence Day fireworks display last night for the first time in several years.

"I thought they turned out pretty darn good," April Verwers of the Knoxville Fireworks Foundation said. The Foundation wanted to raise $15,000 for fireworks, but could only raise $10,000. That did not matter much, as the display was good and the turnout was also impressive.

Verwers said she heard a lot of positive feedback as well. Collection buckets were passed around to start fundraising for next year's display, and Verwers said the group is off to a good start.

"We've started on 2014," Verwers said.
