Ruptured hose causes 250-gallon gasoline leak

Oskaloosa Herald

OSKALOOSA — A ruptured hose on a semi-tanker parked at Wigg's Country Store in Oskaloosa Wednesday afternoon caused a 250-gallon gasoline leak.

The Oskaloosa Fire Department received a report at 1:51 p.m. Wednesday about the gas leak from a tanker truck at the store, located at 1308 A Ave. E. Ten Oskaloosa firefighters, one Emergency Management Agency official and two Mahaska Health Partnership employees responded to the call, according to a report from the Oskaloosa Fire Department.

Some of the spilled gasoline entered a storm sewer and emptied into a creek. Firefighters placed absorbent booms for containment and contacted Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials about the situation. DNR officials were on the scene Wednesday afternoon and a clean-up company based in Des Moines was contacted to clean the creek and do an environmental study, according to the OFD report.

Firefighters were on the scene for three hours. No one was injured, according to the report.
