“It just kind of depends on what type of business you have,” he said.

Shoppers seem to be getting an earlier start this year. The federation says almost a quarter of families with students in kindergarten through 12th grade have begun shopping already, the highest percentage in the 11 years they have conducted a back-to-school survey.
