The outcome of the Mahaska County supervisor special election will be decided Monday.
The special election between Republican Mark Doland and Democrat Tom Rielly will be decided by the status of about 65 absentee ballots.
The initial vote tally gave Doland a 16 vote edge over Rielly — 1,391 for Doland versus 1,375 for Rielly.
“It is too close to call,” Mahaska County Deputy Auditor — Elections Teresa Paige said.
Paige said the outstanding absentee ballots were either surrendered at the polls or were still in the postal system, having been postmarked by Monday.
The canvas of the special election will be held Monday around 9 a.m., Paige said.
