End-of-year celebration has Christmas theme

Knoxville — Knoxville School District staff members marked the end of the 2012-13 year with a Christmas-themed celebration this afternoon.

The theme was selected by Food Services Director Connie Boldt. She said there is a theme each year and there was no particular reason why she chose Christmas this year, other than it was fun.

A singing Santa Claus greeted those who attended, while Nurse Donna Flack poured punch. A Christmas Tree made of lights stood in the middle of the Knoxville High School commons, while decorations adorned the inside and outside. Adding to the atmosphere was a television, playing classics such as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Frosty the Snowman."

After a ham dinner, Superintendent Randy Flack opened the program. He thanked the food service and maintenance staffs for the work they put into the event.

Three employees were recognized for 25 years of employment to the district. They were Middle School aide Marilynn Avitt, Title One teacher Laurie Morgan and Northstar art teacher Terry Hardman.

Also recognized were retiring staff members Pam Dachenbach, a cook at the Middle School and Nancy Johansen, a one-on-one educator. Grounds Supervisor Gary Bacus was recognized for his 41 years of service to the district.

In closing, Flack thanked the hundreds of staff members in attendance for their work through the year.
