Bussey — Rhonda Van Rheenen won a contest sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. As a result, the Twin Cedars FFA received a check for $2,500.

Van Rheenen won the America's Farmers Grow Communities Contest. America's Farmers Grow Communities works directly with farmers to support nonprofit organizations doing important work in rural communities. The program encourages farmers to enter to win $2,500, which is then directed to the farmer's nonprofit of choice.

The nonprofit was Twin Cedars FFA. The check was presented to the organization Thursday night.

Also announced Thursday night was the establishment of the Derek Springer Scholarship. This scholarship will be given in memory of Derek Springer, a Twin Cedars student who passed away after a motor vehicle accident in 2013.

The scholarship will be funded by a percentage of the proceeds of the annual fundraisers and will be awarded to a Senior FFA member at the annual FFA banquet.
