Knoxville — The Knoxville Heritage Community Fondation presented its second, $15,000 installment to the Knoxville Public Library this morning. The Foundation has pledged $45,000 to the library's building expansion project over three years.

Library Board President Dave Garcia said those associated with the expansion project are still working hard to raise funds. Phase 1 of the plan was complete with the purchase of the Dixie Cornell Gebhardt home, to the west of the library, to allow expansion.

Garcia did not have a firm total for how much has been raised, nor does the library have final plans prepared or an accurate estimated cost for its expansion project. Library Director Roslin Thompson puts the figure at around $4 million necessary for the project.

The library is working to raise at least $1 million of that figure. Thompson said most grants, that the library will seek, ask for grantees to have raised at least one-fourth of their goal before applying.
