Hospital officially announces PT change

Knoxville — As reported in today's print edition, the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics has negotiated with 21st Century Rehab and reached an agreement to have the company take over the hospital's physical therapy program in a couple months.

The Journal-Express, when communicating with KHC CEO Kevin Kincaid, learned that an announcement would be made regarding the physical therapy department soon. A press release was received today.

Prior to that, a printout of a message Kincaid shared with KHC staff members had been received, identifying 21st Century Rehab as the company the KHC Board had selected to take over the program.

Scott Evans, who currently provides physical therapy service at KHC, declined to comment.

According to the release from KHC, received this morning, Dr. Susan Woodle will be joining 21st Century and leading the department going forward. Any new therapist brought in to work at the hospital is expected to reside in Knoxville or the KHC service area.

“Our Administrative team ultimately felt 21st Century Rehab has the best plan moving forward for those we serve in sports medicine, PT, and occupational therapy,” Kincaid said in the press release.

21st Century is expected to take over between March 1 and April 1. Look for more on the new company and any new providers, in the coming weeks online and in print editions.
