Video, Slideshow: GOAL graduates 15th class

Knoxville — GOAL Alternative High School in Knoxville held its graduation ceremony this morning. 

The Class of 2013 was the 15th to graduate from the alternative high school. This school is intended to help those who, because of various cicrumstances, are unable to complete a diploma through the regular high school tract. Students are recommended by administration, with the approval of the student and parents, for GOAL to help these students earn a high school diploma. After today's ceremony, 22 graduates have diplomas who may not have earned one otherwise. In GOAL's 15-year history, that number stands at 280. 

Logan Hopkins spoke on behalf of the students. He thanked the staff, the school board and the community for GOAL and the chance to earn a diploma and improve his, and his classmates, chances for success in life. 

Awards were also given to some of today's graduates. Amber Fee, who intends to enroll in beauty school, earned the Jean Hawkes Scholarship, presented by Terry Edwards.

Former GOAL Teacher Sheri Roslien, who taught at the school for 13 years, presented a self-named Inspiration Award to Hopkins. He received a copy of the book Tuesdays with Morrie and an Amazon gift card. 

DIane Allman, on behalf of the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, presented Kyra Donato and Ricky Braaksma with "Gallon Grad" awards, for donating one gallon of blood before finishing high school.

A slideshow, sharing scenes and memories of each student, was presented during the ceremony. Staff members alternated voiceovers during the slideshow, in which they said what would be remembered about each graduate. 

GOAL 2013 graduates include Jacob Angove, Trevor Bailey, Jenna Binns, Ricky Braaksma, Charlie Bragg, Kira Donato, Amber Fee, Dakota Fell, Jamison Hatcher, Dominiec Hill, Logan Hopkins, Taylor La Hue, Zachory Lorton, Amy Marconi, Jonathan Miller, Jeremy Pettyjohn, Taylor Reed, Christina Rice, Ashley Schnieder, Alec Stanley and Braden Tallman.
