Bottled water available for teams

Knoxville — Marion County Emergency Management has nearly 2,000 one-quart bottles of water, purchased for RAGBRAI®, which have been offered to local football teams. Emergency Managemend Director Jeff Anderson just emailed this to school officials and many others:

Superintendents and Activity Directors:

According to the school calendars, you will all be hosting home football games tomorrow night.  The Marion County Emergency Management Agency, and Marion County Conservation Department have approximately 2,000 one-quart bottles of drinking water that we acquired in preparation for RAGBRAI. Due to the extreme weather conditions that are expected tomorrow night, we are offering this water to you at no cost.  There are no strings or requirements attached to the offer, and it is yours to do with as you please, give it away to players or spectators, we don’t care.

Our focus is on the water going to a good community use, and hopefully preventing anyone enjoying your events from getting ill from the heat.  All that we ask is that you communicate with us so that we can have an idea of which schools want some, so that we can share it accordingly amongst you.  If you are interested, please contact me at your convenience.

The water can be picked up at Marion County Park by arranging a time with me.  I also have access to approximately 2,000 pounds of ice (also here in Knoxville) that I am willing to provide to you out of our ice machine.  Bring your coolers along when you pick up the water, and we will get you started with the cooling of the water.

Good luck to all of you!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
