Knoxville — Knoxville Mayor Don Zoutte, a veteran himself, believes that Monday morning's Veterans Day Breakfast has been the biggest in the event's seven-year history.

The National Guard Armory in Knoxville is clouded with the haze from the pancake machine and other warmers as area veterans are treated to a free breakfast. Members of the Knoxville Lions Club have made more pancakes than they wanted to count, while Hy-Vee has provided other food and beverages.

Zoutte estimated that 325 had come through for breakfast between 7-9 a.m. After the event ended at 10:30 a.m., the final tally reported by Zoutte was 370. His goal is 400 in 2013.

Also available for veterans is information from the American Legion, Marion County Commission on Veterans Affairs, AMVETS and drawings, courtesy of local elementary school children, thanking the veterans for their service.
