CENTERVILLE — The Knoxville Lady Panthers took one more step towards running the table in South Central Conference Volleyball play Tuesday night as they ran roughshod over the Redettes of Centerville on the court at Lakeview Elementary School in Centerville.

The Panthers came out firing on all cylinders and they took no prisoners. The Panthers stunned the home team and took the crowd out of the game with a 25-9 win in game one. Knoxville gave Redettes a little wiggle room in game two and then closed it down with a 25-16 win. Game three was all Knoxville as the Panthers opened up an 18-6 lead and coasted into the winner’s circle with a 25-13 win.

In that third game Knoxville senior Ella Breazeale notched her 500th kill with the 24th point. Breazeale then served up a kill by Marlea Cox for the winning point.

“I’m so excited to get 500,” Breazeale said. “I never thought that I would reach that number. I played middle hitter in my earlier years and most of the kill opportunities go to the outside. But moving to the outside really opened up the opportunities for kills. Brittany Bacorn sets the ball so well for us and she makes things easy. I love getting the kills as they bring higher levels of excitement.”

In game one the Panthers roared away to an 11-2 lead behind the serving of Addy Dunkin and Katie Deaver. In the run Knoxville had a pair of kills  by Bacorn and kills by Payton Horn, Breazeale and Anna Buttell. Deaver also zipped in a pair of ace serves.

The Reds tried to find some traction with a three-point run with Kiera Klum serving and she also registered a kill. But the Panthers quickly put out the fire and went on a 10-point run. This time it was the serving by Cox, Bacorn and Hannah Dunkin that did the job. Bacorn smashed a pair of kills, Rylun McCarty added a block and a kill and Horn and Breazeale hammered down kills. An ace serve by Addy Dunkin brought the game to a close.

In game two, the Redettes were able to score some points with their defense, but the offense could not get untracked as the Panthers opened up a 13-9 lead. Centerville got kills from Maddison Casteel and Kenly Shilling and a block by Faith Owens, but the Knoxville front wall was blasting kills in rapid fire order. Breazeale pounded down four kills, Bacorn added three more, McCarty had a kill and a block and Hannah Dunkin fired home a kill.

Centerville tried to stay in the match with three kills by Matty Kovacevich and another by Shilling, but the Panthers were relentless at the net with Breazeale, Bacorn and McCarty peppering the floor with kills.

If something is working, then stay by the stuff. That is just what the Panthers did in game three. Aggressive serving and powerful hitting soon produced a 10-5 lead and Knoxville cruised home with a 25-13 win.

“Our passing was really good tonight,” Knoxville coach Mollie Kietges said. “We ran our offense well and the hitters were firing. We were very active on defense and dug up some good out of system balls for points. When you serve aggressively, you will have some errors and we did. I’m OK with that, but we will keep working to clean up some of those errors,”

The Panthers will be looking to complete the run of the table in the SCC Tuesday night when they host Chariton.
