Letter to the Editor: Enforce beautification ordinances

Knoxville — To the Editor:

I love Knoxville. I love the people here. and  I think it's a great place to live. I take pride in our town and our home. But what ever happened to the city ordinance to keep grass mowed and at a certain height?

We have a lot of people coming during RAGBRAI® and again during Nationals. I see tall grass and tall weeds on many properties all over town and especially on Highway 14. Why have city ordinances if they aren't going to be enforced? I know KPD have a lot to do but wouldn't you think they could report problem areas?

We were proud of our beautiful lawn till the city tore up our street and lawn for the new drainage system and street. They put clay and rocks and lots of weeds to replace what we had. Now we have clumps that look like pasture grass! They finally came back and threw more seed and watered it more often so it's starting to look a little better but it sure isn't the lawn we had before! Bless their hearts, they even threw grass seed on my new freshly planted flower bed  so I could get more exercise and sun! (it was not next to the street either).

I can't win for losing but I still love Knoxville. I wish others would take more pride and a little time to keep up their yards. If they can't, someone could call ACTS--A Call To Serve. Volunteers will help clean up yards for people who aren't physically able to. My 2 cents worth.
