Knoxville Mayor Don Zoutte gave his official endorsement of Dave Loebsack (Iowa's Second Congressional District) and Dick Schrad (Iowa Senate District 14) on Friday morning at Coffee Connection in Knoxville.
"We need to move communities forward," Loebsack said to the crowd gathered at the local coffee shop. "I am willing to work across the aisle and fight for the right s of veterans. They should not have to come back from their duty and have to fight for a job."
With just a short time until election day is upon both candidates, Loebsack and Schrad, feel good about their campaigns.
"I am going to rely a lot on the support from the northern part of the district," Schrad said. "They know my name and I am reasonably optimistic. I have met folks from all over and my heart goes out to those who are poor. I know we can't fix everything, but that has been my biggest struggle - meeting with people who are challenged. Something isn't right. Overall it's been a good experience and I am grateful for the folks I have met."
Loebsack also commented in the same manner.
"My campaign is going very good," Loebsack said. "I have the resources I need and I am talking to a lot of prospective voters. People want us to work together and across the aisle. We will have 60,000 troops coming home from Afghanistan and they need to be treated with the respect they deserve, as well at the veterans that have already served."
