The Iowa State Education Association presented a donation of $250, during an all-school assembly, to the Melcher-Dallas Education Association on Thursday, Dec. 12, for students to create an anti-bullying Caring Community in their school. Students came up with the idea to create a project that would demonstrate the positive activity in Melcher-Dallas schools at a recent leadership conference they attended in Des Moines.

ISEA president Tammy Wawro was on hand Thursday to present a check at an all-school assembly. Student leaders explained their project to the student body, and were given the check and a Caring Community banner as “seed” to help their project grow.

“We are delighted that students in Melcher-Dallas have taken the initiative to create a positive message about what is happening in their school and spread it out to the greater community,” said Wawro. “The ISEA is proud of Iowa’s students and what they are doing to make a difference and we look for ways to support them and the big impact they can make. We are especially proud of the leadership in Melcher-Dallas and the creativity these young people are demonstrating by using what they learned at their conference and applying it into their everyday lives,” added Wawro. “These projects are exactly the kind of work we expect to see coming from Iowa’s public schools!”
