Hatch: Right time to run

Knoxville — Brian Hatch says that running for office has been something that has interested him for a long time. The timing has become right for the 2013 City Election.

Hatch was born and raised in Knoxville. A Panther baseball player, he moved on to continue to participate in the sport at Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas.

After earning a degree, he returned to Knoxville. For the past 12 years, he has worked for the Marion County Engineer's office. He is an Engineer-Technician at the office, in which he does a great deal of drafting and surveying for the office.

"I think Knoxville is a great place," Hatch said. The experience he had growing up here is what brought him back. He hopes his two sons will have the same experience, and they will come back, as well as future generations. This applies not only to his own family, but to all Knoxville residents.

Hatch wants to have a positive impact on his hometown and his sons' hometown. He is already serving on the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Board, a body he was elected to in 2012. Hatch wants to be a leader and, after giving the idea of running for Mayor some thought, he believes this year, "just felt like the right time."

The deadline to file for the 2013 City election is Thursday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. Paperwork can be collected from the city clerk's office.

Look for more on Hatch and all of the City candidates in the coming weeks. The election will be Tuesday, Nov. 5.
