Supervisors meet Tuesday, try to plan ahead

Steve Woodhouse
Journal-Express

Knoxville — The Marion County Board of Supervisors is trying to be more efficient regarding their meetings, while tackling necessary issues. Prior to establishing the agenda for the Tuesday, Jan. 22, regular meeting, they tried to decide which items were the most pressing.

"We're trying to not make an eight-hour meeting," Supervisor Mark Raymie said. The supervisors may have more of the agenda-planning meetings like the one they held Thursday.

Part of the special meeting, to plan ahead, is to try to avoid any conflict with Iowa's Open Meetings Laws. Agendas should read whether or not items on them are up for discussion, or discussion and action. The board wants to be compliant with the laws.

Thinking more long-term, the board examined its "issues list," of things that need to be discussed and addressed. Some of these include dealing with weeds this year, health care plans, commission/board appointments and contract renewals and negotiations.

The board will hold its regular meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, with a special meeting planned for 1 p.m. The special meeting is likely to include a closed session to discuss health care plans. Raymie, who is also an attorney, said the closed session is necessary because, while names may not be used, medical information discussed could reveal the identity of the person being discussed.

The agendas for both meetings are pasted below.
