Video: Mayor reads proclamations

Knoxville — Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch read two proclamations at Monday's regular city council meeting. 

The first recognized longtime, active Knoxville community member Chuck Day. Day worked with the Chamber of Commerce for years, served on the Knoxville Memorial Hall Commission and much more. Hatch's proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Chuck Day has played an active leadership role in several community-based organizations; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Day served as Executive Director on the Iowa Chamber of Commerce Board for 2 years; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Day served as Knoxville Chamber Director from 1971-1991; and

WHEREAS, the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club was created in 1972 by Chuck Day and he was personally inducted into the Ambassador Hall of Fame in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Day has served the community of Knoxville in many ways over the years; and

WHEREAS, because of Chuck Day’s leadership, corporations such as 3M and Hormel have brought their businesses here to Knoxville; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Day called the first meeting to order in hopes to build the Sprint Car Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Day served on the Knoxville Hospital Board of Directors and helped the process of building the new hospital as it stands today; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Day served as commissioner for Memorial Hall from 1971-2014; and

Now, THEREFORE, I, Brian Hatch, Mayor of the City of Knoxville, Iowa, on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Knoxville, Iowa hereby express our sincerest appreciation and gratitude to Chuck Day for his many years of dedication and work to benefit our community.

Hatch also proclaimed May 11-17 as National Police Week, with May 15 designated as National Peace Officers' Memorial Day. The proclamation reads: 

WHEREAS, in 1962 the Congress and President of the United States designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls as Police Week; and

Football coaches Jay McKinstrey of Pella and Eric Keller of Knoxville led the south team, which won 23-7. The Pleasantville High School Dance Team also played a big role in the pregame festivities.

Other Knoxville actors include Greg May as the General and Liz DeMoss as a Who.
