Knoxville — Knoxville High School Vocal Music Director Jackie Duffy was recently selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars.
"I will tell you that it was a surprise," Duffy said. She was nominated for the award by Brody Dingel, a student she tried to recruit for the choir for three years. He finally gave in this year.
"He's just been a fabulous addition to the choir," Duffy said.
The Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award recognizes role models who have made a lasting difference in their classroom by encouraging students to strive for excellence. For Duffy, teaching is not only easy, but a pleasure, when working with students who want to learn and have a constant thirst for knowledge.
As for Dingel, Duffy said he is a talented singer who works hard every day. She is honored to have received this award.
Duffy is in her 26th year of teaching. Of those, 21 have been in Knoxville.
