DMACC offers business workshop in Knoxville

Jump-start your business idea with the Simple Steps for Starting Your Business (SCORE) workshops. Knoxville area residents can learn from successful and experienced executives about how to start or expand their business.

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), along with DMACC Business Resources (DBR), and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Marion County are offering the SCORE Series Workshops. The first session is free, with no obligation to continue. SCORE is a national non-profit organization that helps small businesses through education and mentorship.

More than 80 percent of job growth and economic development in Iowa comes from small businesses and entrepreneurs. We are excited to bring nationally recognized resources to leaders in the Marion county area,” said DBR Executive Director Kim Didier. “By participating in the Simple Steps classes, business owners and entrepreneurs will discover all the tools they need to be successful.”

Topics discussed during the five 3-hour workshops include:

· Start-up Basics

· Business Concept (from idea to reality)

· Marketing Plan

· Financial Matters

· Funding Sources and Next Steps

The workshops meet Tuesdays, March 25 to April 22, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The first session is free. The fee for the remaining workshops and follow up mentorship is $125. Each additional person from the same business will pay only $65.

The first session meets at The Center on the Square, 206 E. Robinson St., the remaining sessions will be held at the Iowa State Extension Building, 210 N. Iowa St. Both locations are in Knoxville.
