---- — Knoxville Assistant City Manager Dylan Feik and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Larissa Van Donselaar recently attended a meeting for the 2014 overnight towns for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI®). The Knoxville representatives were there to share their insights, answer questions and provide direction to this year’s group of overnight towns.

“We heard nothing but praise,” Feik said of Knoxville’s 2013 efforts. Everyone was impressed with how well the ride’s visit to Knoxville in July went. Feik said he even heard that Knoxville did this better than anyone ever before.

“We did a fantastic job,” Feik said.

In other good news, the Knoxville Optimist Club is building boxes for the Children’s Book Exchange Program. The boxes will be filled with books, available for borrowing with no questions asked, and placed in City parks. Dick Reed asked the Knoxville City Council for permission to place the boxes. Tracking the books will be left to the “honor system,” and the community is hopeful that the boxes will not be targeted for vandalism.
