Knoxville — The Knoxville Elementary PTO is preparing for its second "Jog-A-Thon" fundraiser, scheduled for Oct. 23 and 25.
Last year's event, which included participation from West and Northstar Elementary students, raised $16,000 for the PTO. The students will once again seek pledges for the number of laps they are able to run or walk around a track that will be created in the school yard at each building. Prizes will be available for the top fund raisers.
West Elementary Principal Mike Montgomery said the goal of the PTO is to help the school do things that the school district's budget cannot afford. This includes extras for the classroom, a $100 stipend for teachers to help pay for summer classes, providing food for parent-teacher conferences and creating a yearbook for the elementary schools. PTO also assists with field trips, and PTO volunteers sometimes help at the schools.
The track will be set up at West Elementary on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Children will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Northstar's event will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
