Knoxville — Stepping Stones Early Learning Center Director Pam Mahoney has found a new job, and her last day with the early child care center will be June 20.
Mahoney included the Journal-Express in a list of recipients of her resignation letter moments ago. In the letter, Mahoney writes, "I regret to inform you all that I have resigned my position as Director of Stepping Stones Early Learning Center, effective June 20, 2014. I have accepted a position with the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children. I will be working to help child care center staff go back to school through the T.E.A.C.H program. I hope through this position, I will be able to share some of my knowledge and experience that I have gained over the past 30 years. I will continue to advocate for young children and quality early care and education programs."
She went on to say, "I am grateful for having the opportunity to work at Stepping Stones Early Learning Center. I look forward to the new challenge I face in my new position."
Mahoney's work as an early learning advocate and worker dates back to the former VA Child Care Center. It was with her leadership that Stepping Stones came into existence. Stepping Stones opened in 2006. There is still an outstanding debt for the building.
We intend to follow up with Mahoney and others about this story. Look for a full report in an upcoming edition.
