---- — If the City of Pleasantville maintained its employee health insurance policy as is, there would be a 19 percent increase in the rates.
City Manager Joe Mrstik said the typical rate increase is between 4-6 percent. During the City's budgeting process, with the city council aware of the implementation of the 2010 health care law, a 12 percent increase was planned for.
The City has worked with its insurance agent, whom Mrstik said has been good to work with, to find a way to lower the increase. Deductibles are expected to increase for employees.
Mrstik said the City was told by its agent that insurance companies still do not know what changes the law will bring, and have to be prepared for what may happen. The City's health insurance provider is Wellmark.
