FCCLA team to represent in Nashville

The Journal Express

---- — The Knoxville High School FCCLA team of Krissy Anderson, Jordan Richardson and Kelsey Willardson have earned the right to represent Iowa at the National Star Event competition, to be held in Nashville, Tenn., July 7-11.

To earn the honors, the team showcased its “Light the Night” fundraiser, which was held last November at Living Windows. The fundraiser was intended to benefit Camp Heart Connection, a children’s camp designed for young cancer victims. The camp offers support for children and their families dealing with the disease.

Willardson works at the camp. She said it provides campers with the opportunity to spend a week “being a normal kid.” The growth she sees in them, during that week, also impresses her.

On March 25, FCCLA presented its service project in Des Moines at the State Star Event. The team was awarded a gold medal, which qualified them for Nationals and the state title.

This is the first time Knoxville has made it to the FCCLA Nationals. Sponsor Paige Bolton said she is very proud of her team.

The costs of the trip to Nashville are covered. However, if you would like to donate to FCCLA’s service project, they are still collecting donations for the camp.

FCCLA meets every Thursday. Projects include selling pins at homecoming, community service projects, and in May, they will present graduating seniors with May Day Baskets.
