Burglaries and reminders

By Steve Woodhouse

Knoxville — Another rash of burglaries hit Knoxville last weekend, and as people continue to shop for Christmas, Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada wants to remind you to keep your vehicle locked at all times.

This includes those times when your vehicle is in your garage. In a couple of last week's crimes, the perpetrators entered garages to break into cars.

When Christmas shopping, Losada recommends putting your shopping bags and gifts out of sight. Even if you have to cover your gifts with a blanket or coat, if a burglar cannot see your gifts, he or she will be less tempted to break into your car.

After Christmas, the KPD advises residents to break down the boxes gifts come in. Burglars can see what new electronics, toys, etc., are inside a home by seeing the packaging on the curb.

Losada and the KPD want you to be safe this holiday season.
