Knoxville — Children at Stepping Stones Early Learning Center received a grant from the USDA Child and Adult Food Program for $500 to purchase items for a garden, which they planted in May. The plants are growing, thanks to the care the children and their supervising adults have given them.

Among the plants growing in the garden behind Stepping Stones grows sunflowers, carrots, beans and strawberries. The plants are starting to come up now, and when they mature, the food will be divided among the classrooms to be enjoyed by all of the children.

Wal-Mart also provided Stepping Stones with a $50 gift card to purchase items as well.
