Motorcycle accident sends one to hospital

Knoxville — A motorcyclist was transported via air to Methodist hospital in Des Moines following an accident on Highway 14 in Knoxville this afternoon.

According to Officer Ken Hucks with the Knoxville Police Department, a car was northbound on 14 and preparing to turn into Casey's north. At the same time, another, gold, vehicle was preparing to leave Casey's, turning left to proceed southbound.

When the northbound vehicle pulled in, a motorcyclist, behind the northbound vehicle, did not see the southbound vehicle. The motorcycle struck the southbound vehicle. The impact threw the motorcycle operator into the air, and he traveled several yards.

He landed on the road and he was not wearing a helmet. Injuries were sustained and he was taken to the hospital. He was the only one injured in this crash.

Names have not been released. The KPD is assisting the Iowa State Patrol in the ongoing investigation. No citations have been issued and law enforcement remains on the scene, according to Hucks.

Meanwhile, Highway 14 was shut down, with limited traffic, between 12:50 p.m. (when the call came in) and 2:40 p.m.

We will update you as more information becomes available.
