Knoxville — One of the Knoxville Education Foundation's biggest fund raisers, its annual chili cook-off, is set for Friday, Jan. 10, at 5:30 p.m., at Knoxville High School.

Approximately 10 contestants will make their best batch of soup. For $5, one can fight the cold with a sample of each kind of chili. You can vote for your favorite. That price also includes a ham sandwich, vegetables and a beverage.

The cook-off is an annual precursor to the Knoxville boys' and girls' home basketball games against Pella. Proceeds from the cook-off are used to help the KEF provide resources to each school building in town.

David Hoke with the KEF said this is also the time of year, during which the foundation holds its "Three-pointer and wrestling pin" fund raiser. This fund raiser allows one to pledge an amount of money per three-point basket made and wresting pin executed by Knoxville during the winter sports season. Hoke can be reached at Iowa State Savings Bank if you are interested in pledging, or contact the Knoxville Schools administration office.

The KEF began as a part of Knoxville Dollars for Scholars. The strength of Knoxville's Dollars for Scholars program provided a good platform from which the KEF could launch, Hoke added.
