Des Moines —

Iowa high school students are encouraged to apply for the student member position on the State Board of Education. The application deadline is Feb. 1.

Each year, the Governor appoints a student to serve as a non-voting student member of the State Board of Education.

Applicants must be full-time 10th or 11th grade students enrolled in a public high school.

Eligible students also must have:

·         A grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.75 on a 5.0 scale.

·         Attended their present high school for at least the past two consecutive semesters (or equivalent thereof).
