McCarl looks to defend in the 410 division

Terry McCarl picked up his seventh Knoxville 410 track championship a year ago.

McCarl and Davey Heskin were in a point battle to the very end a year ago.

Davey led for most of the season. Entering the final night McCarl held a slim eight point lead in the season points race.

McCarl posted quick time for the first time all season on the final night. He then won his heat race.

“In the feature, I drove very careful to try and stay out of trouble,” McCarl said.

What does the veteran track champion expect in 2013?

“It should be a hum-dinger of a season at Knoxville in the 410 division. It looks like it will be the toughest season perhaps of all-time,” he stated.

McCarl listed top challengers to his crown as being Ian Madsen, Heskin, Brooke Tatnell, Bronson Maeschen and his son Austin McCarl, who will try to action this year, among others.

McCarl opened the 2013 season with a World of Outlaw feature win in Florida at Volusia back in February.

As Austin returns to the track, Carson will watch from the sidelines in 2013. Carson will be the crew chief for Terry’s family-owned No. 24 car.

Terry started racing at Knoxville back in 1985. The McCarl family has had a presence at the Knoxville facility since the last 60’s when Terry’s father, Lenard raced.

After opening night at the track was washed away last weekend at Knoxville, action looks to start at the facility Saturday.
