Knoxville — The Marion County Democrats are hosting a picnic/fundraiser, open to anyone, on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 1-4 p.m., at North Overlook at Lake Red Rock.

Democratic Party Chair Anita Martin said hamburgers, hot dogs and brats are on the menu. Those who come are asked to provide a vegetable, salad or dessert.

Guests expected include Congressman Dave Loebsack, Brad Anderson, candidate for Secretary of State, Sen. Jack Hatch (also a candidate for governor), gubernatorial candidate Bob Krause and representatives for gubernatorial candidate Tyler Olson and Congressman Bruce Braley (also running for US Senate). Knoxville Mayor Don Zoutte and City Councilman Tim Pitt are also expected to be in attendance.

Times for the guests to speak, with the exception of Loebsack, are not confirmed. Loebsack is scheduled to address the crowd at 1:30 p.m. Others will speak when they can.

Martin said that while the Democrats are sponsoring this event, and it also serves as a fundraiser for the party, everyone is encouraged to attend to learn more about these candidates. The Democrats have more events planned in September and October. Look for more on these in coming weeks.
