M-D Library to host Pumpkin Fun Run/Walk

Melcher-Dallas — It's not about the time you post, it's about the costume.

The Friends of the Melcher-Dallas Public Library is hosting a Pumpkin Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 28. Participants of all ages are invited to come and be part of this fund raiser for the new library.

A building has been purchased at 111 South Main as the new home of the library. However, funds still need to be raised for the interior remodeling work necessary for the library to move in.

Participants in the fun run are invited to dress as pumpkins. The more creative the costume, the better, according to the library's Lori Davis.

Registration is $25 until Sept. 20. T-shirts are included, though they are not guaranteed to those who register the day of the event. The cost increases to $30 from Sept. 20 through the day of the race. Registration the day of the event begins at 8 a.m., at the Melcher-Dallas Community Center, with the race starting at 9 a.m. In the event of adverse weather, the race will be canceled.

The Friends received a $10,000 grant from the Marion County Community Foundation. Other grants are being written. Davis said the goal is to bring the new library to life without passing a bond or otherwise putting the costs on taxpayers. They hope grants and fund raising will enable them to reach their goal.
