Video: Henning named Teacher of the Year

Bussey — Twin Cedars High School Science Teacher Matt Henning has been selected as this year's Teacher of the Year by Attica Gavel Lodge 229.

This is the second year for the award, which also puts Henning in the running for statewide honors. He was presented with the award this morning, with TCHS students looking on.

Henning was surprised by the award. There are many aspects to his job that he enjoys.

"It's hard to say just one thing," Henning said. Teaching affords him the opportunity to use his creativity and to learn himself.

Henning was nominated for the award by TCHS Principal Dave Roby. The Lodge asked for a suggestion and Roby could think of many reasons to nominate Henning.

"Mr. Henning is an extremely knowledgable teacher who cares deeply about our students," Roby said. "He is always willing to take extra time to make sure the students are successful."

Henning lives in Harvey with wife, Jen, and five-month-old son, Linus. He has worked at Twin Cedars for 11 years, with three years experience in Memphis, Mo., prior to that.

Paperwork has been submitted on Henning's behalf for the statewide award. This will be announced in September.
