Loebsack tours Hormel

Knoxville — Congressman Dave Loebsack paid a visit to Hormel in Knoxville today.

Loebsack told the Journal-Express that this was the first opportunity he had to tour the facility. He is on a tour of several plants while back in the district.

Hormel Plant Manager Troy Hawkshead said the tour went well. He shared with Loebsack information about Hormel's history, which began in 1891, and, specifically, the 36-year history of the plant in Knoxville. Hawkshead touted Hormel's commitment to the community, the environment and being a good corporate partner.

Loebsack was presented a bag of Hormel pepperoni, produced in Knoxville. The Congressman said it was among his favorite foods and planned to eat it for lunch. Hawkshead added that he hopes Loebsack will take time to look at future packages of pepperoni for Knoxville's signature.

Loebsack was on his way to Pella to celebrate Tulip Time after the tour. He was hoping the tulips would not be too covered in snow to enjoy them.

In an update of what is going on Washington, Loebsack said he hopes Congress and the President will "get their act together" to move the country forward, specifically regarding the economy. The unemployment rate for the country was released this morning, and stands at 7.5 percent, down slightly from last month.

Loebsack shared his disappointment with the sequestration, proposed by President Obama, which Loebsack, a fellow Democrat, voted against.
