Knoxville — Knoxville Middle School seventh grade students Taylor Purvis and Kaley Iddings participated in the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (SCIBA) Honor Band on Tuesday.
Purvis plays the alto saxophone and Iddings plays the clarinet. Their band director is Tim McBride, who is in his first year with the Knoxville School District. Both students said he is a great teacher.
On Tuesday, Purvis and Iddings traveled to Johnston High School. They spent several hours practicing four songs before taking part in a performance that night.
"It was really fun," Purvis said.
"We met some new people and played some awesome songs," Iddings added. The songs they performed include "The Star Spangled Banner," "Midnight Madness" and "Abide with Me."
The two plan to continue to participate in Knoxville's band program through high school. Iddings said the band is full of good people.
"I think people should join band because we're having a great year," Purvis added.
