Board changing banks

---- — Following the recommendation of Business Manager Craig Mobley, the Knoxville School Board voted to move banking practices from Wells Fargo to Iowa State Savings Bank Monday night. In August 2011, the district agreed to have services, including payroll, done at Wells Fargo. In the years since, the representative who worked with Knoxville Schools has left the company, according to Mobley. “I went for a long period of time not knowing who is working with Knoxville Schools,” Mobley said. In response, he scheduled a meeting with bank official Steve Agan and another Wells Fargo representative to air his concerns. Mobley said he expected a response and did not receive one.“I got a hold of Steve and told him I couldn't do this anymore,” Mobley said. “My recommendation would be to terminate this agreement.” Board Vice President Mike Helle asked if Iowa State Savings Bank offered the same services as Wells Fargo. Mobley said yes. He admitted that the process he followed, to enact the current agreement with Wells Fargo, could have been better.“I don't think it was a perfect process,” Mobley said. Mobley has talked with ISSB Vice President Bob Wims, who gave indication that the bank can meet the school district's needs. Board President Leslie Miller is employed at ISSB. She did not participate in this discussion and she abstained from the vote to approve the move to ISSB. The change is effective Oct. 1. Other school board notes: • Board member Tim McDonald was absent.• Accepted the resignations of Tiffany Johnston, assistant varsity volleyball coach; Nancy Johansen, one-on-one associate at KHS; Alexa Bruce, art teacher and associate at West.• Approved the coaching assignment for Travis Loscher, assistant varsity baseball.• Approved teaching contracts for Whitney Plein, high school science teacher; Tracy DeWitt, high school language arts and David Sappenfield, GOAL high school math. • Approved Class of 2013 graduates, pending completion of requirements.• Approved contracts for certified staff.• Set school fees for 2013-14. According to Mobley, the only changes are in meal prices and milk costs will increase from 45-50 cents. • The board held a contract negotiations strategy session following the regular meeting.• The next regular board meeting will be Tuesday, May 28, at 5:30 p.m.
