---- — Cheyenne Boyd, a junior at Knoxville High School, has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Raleigh-Durham, N.C., from July 7-16. Boyd is only the second student from Knoxville to receive this honor.
Boyd said her future plans include a career in the medical field. She was nominated for this honor by her Organic Chemistry teacher, Whitney Plein. In the nomination form, Plein calls Boyd one of her best students, who helps others and leads by example.
Boyd’s 10-day trip will include the opportunity to talk to doctors and interact with patients. The location for the event is ideal, as she is considering an application to the University of North Carolina after her graduation in 2014. Other opportunities she will have on the trip will include watching a surgery and working with cadavers.
Boyd’s interest in medicine comes naturally. Her father, Trevor, and grandmother both work in the medical field.
“We’re all very proud of her,” mother, Lisa, said.
The cost to attend the training is $3,500. The family is seeking financial support for the trip. An account is set up at Iowa State Savings Bank, if you would like to donate, in the name of Cheyenne Boyd. For more information, contact Boyd at firstname.lastname@example.org.
