Andringa named to 100 CEO list

Pella — Vermeer Corporation President and CEO Mary Andringa has been named to the STEMconnector® List of 100 CEO Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  Fortune Magazine includes the complete listing of the 100 CEO Leaders in STEM in its Global Issue, released July 23.  STEMconnector®, the “one-stop-shop” for STEM information, originally released the official list for its 100 CEO Leaders in STEM publication in June.

“A successful American economy is dependent on a thriving workforce,” Andringa said in her profile, which also outlines her many roles including current co-chair of the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council in Iowa.  “Investing in STEM education, collaboration and opportunities makes sense in order to grow and support our nation’s economic future,” she said.

The list of 100 corporate CEO profiles includes their thought-provoking views on the future of our national competitiveness and need for a STEM workforce. The CEOs center their discussions on technology; innovation; skills to careers; public-private partnerships; women, girls and diversity; global competitiveness; scalability and best practice.

“I’ve always been very interested in education, in continuous learning, and as a former teacher, I see the importance of emphasizing all areas of STEM with our students.  A skilled workforce is always one of the top issues that manufacturers talk about, and that’s often true for all business.  We have the opportunity to make sure we’ve got the right focus in all levels of education,” said Andringa.

STEMconnector CEO Edie Fraser says the 100 CEO Leaders in STEM represents the best thinking at the highest level and states, “It is all about CEO commitment. We are collectively humbled by the caliber of the entries and salute and congratulate all of those included.”

The list was first presented at the 2013 STEM Solutions Summit by US News and World Report in Austin, Texas. It is available through STEMconnector® at www.STEMconnector.org/100CEOs, as well as in the July Global issue of Fortune Magazine.  The objective of the 100 CEO Leaders in STEM publication is to salute and celebrate an active group of CEOs that have contributed to making a difference by pushing the STEM issue throughout their careers, their industries and their companies.
