Local projects received a little helping hand as the community of Pleasantville received a philanthropic grant from the Marion County Community Foundation. The grants are several in a large multi-organizational donation plan spanning several cities and country landmarks over the 2013 fiscal year, with the total donation amounting to $95,050.

Donations to Pleasantville organizations were broad and generous. The Pleasantville Senior Center received $1,000 for a new water heater, while the American Legion Post #108 was given $500 for flags to mark veteran graves in the Pleasantville area cemeteries.

The Pleasantville Community School District received $3,000 for uses “to be determined by the administration,” and its FFA Alumni received $1,000 for construction of a new poultry pen. Finally, the City of Pleasantville received $2,000 for improvements to be made to the local Cora Shadle Park.

The Foundation has been in service for over eight years and has served over 300 different projects throughout their existence. The Foundation webpage reads: “The MCCF was developed in 2005 following a legislative initiative that provides annual grants to qualified county community foundations to promote endowment building at the local level, stronger service organizations, and a greater sense of community. The Foundation’s mission is to foster private giving, strengthen service providers, and improve the conditions of the community. To these ends, it will promote endowment development, community building, grant making, organizational collaboration, needs analysis, and public leadership for the benefit of the people of Marion County.”

The money was distributed at the Pleasantville City Hall on Sept. 11, with representatives from each recipient organization receiving the grant.
