Knoxville — A jury found in favor of the Marion County Sheriff's Department in a civil lawsuit earlier this week.
Jacquelyn Merdina filed the suit against the department in December 2012, nearly a year after an incident at the jail. According to proposed jury instructions, posted online, Merdina alleged that she was injured at the Marion County Jail on Dec. 31, 2011.
Online court records indicate that Merdina was arrested for domestic abuse assault on that date. The charges were dropped.
Merdina further alleged that she was intoxicated on the night in question and that the sheriff's department failed to properly supervise her. A jury was not convinced. She lost the civil suit and Judge John Lloyd assessed the costs of the lawsuit to her.
