Des Moines — The Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee advanced HF2464, a bill intended to rebate up to $2 million in sales tax back to the Knoxville Raceway, this afternoon.
Rep. Greg Heartsill, who introduced the original bill in the House, reported that the legislation made it through a subcommittee at 11 a.m. The full committee approved the bill at 2 p.m. Heartsill is unsure of when the full Senate will take up the bill.
"The Senate is pretty favorable toward it," Heartsill said. "It should pass through smoothly."
Another bill, floor managed by Heartsill, will be signed into law by Gov. Terry Branstad on Thursday. The bill addresses new human trafficking laws in the state.
