Knoxville — Judge John Lloyd has granted a request for expanded media coverage of criminal proceedings in the Marion County case of Troy Neil Rider.
Rider, 33, of Carlisle, is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of sexual exploitation by a school employee in Marion County. In Warren County, he is charged with one count of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Court rules regarding expanded media coverage dictate that regional media coordinators are selected to represent news outlets in different areas of the state. The request for expanded media coverage was filed by the regional coordinator on March 11. Lloyd granted the request on May 2.
By granting this request, members of the news media will be permitted to use cameras and other recording devices during court proceedings. Exceptions to this allowance may be made at the discretion of the presiding judge.
Rider has pled not guilty and is scheduled to be back in Marion County District Court on June 6.
