Knoxville — On Monday afternoon, Knoxville Rescue was called to the Skate Park in reference to a teenager experiencing dizziness after a fall.
Fire Chief Nick Bonstell said the boy was injured due to the fall, not the 100-degree temperatures. The patient was not awake when Mercy One airlifted him to a Des Moines hospital. Bonstell is not sure what the boy hit his head on.
Bonstell said this incident serves as a reminder to all bikers and skaters to wear safety equipment, especially helmets, when participating in these activities. He said, "Your head is delicate. Protect it."
If we receive an update on the boy's condition, we will pass it along.
