Two-vehicle accident Thursday night

Clay Township — A two-vehicle accident occurred at Highway 92 and T-25 in Clay Township in eastern Marion County around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17. 

According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Curtis Carlson of Tracy was traveling westbound on Highway 92 in a white Honda. A gray Ford Focus, driven by James Nelson of West Des Moines, was also traveling westbound behind him.

When attempting to turn left onto T-25, Carlson's vehicle was sideswiped on the driver's door by the Focus. Carlson suffered injuries and was transported by Clay Township Fire/Rescue. 

Nelson was cited for failure to stop within a secure, cleared distance. The airbag in the Focus was deployed and there were no reports of injuries to Nelson. 

The Iowa State Patrol also responded to the accident scene. The accident remains under investigation.
